Instagram’s parent Facebook has also rolled out Facebook Shops to funnel sales from the more than 90 million small and mid-sized businesses using its platform. And Albertsons and Kroger are working on a similar plan with Pinterest.
The idea has already proven successful in China, where Tencent’s WeChat users have been doing it for two years. Now it’s catching on in the U.S. Purchases from social media surged more than 80% YOY in March, outpacing the 50% jump in purchases directly from retail websites, according to Amperity.
