Probably the best way to sleep at night is just to put stop losses in to manage risk, but then of course you run the risk of simply topping and tailing yourself. This would appear to be the sort of thing ideally suited to a parabolic trailing stop loss system that follows the market higher, though in truth the performance of such a system was pretty poor until the start of last year. For what it’s worth, the system using standard settings stopped out of longs last Friday. (The long/short version of this indicator is so uninspiring I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.) Then again, using this type of framework made you little to no money in 1999 because you kept getting stopped out. Gee, no wonder Softbank and an army of retail investors are concentrating their risk in paying up for calls! #stocktalk
